The five-level fire that occurred in Hongfu Court, Tai Po District, Hong Kong, resulting in multiple casualties including a firefighter, has plunged the entire nation into profound sorrow. At this difficult time, we express our deepest condolences for the compatriots who tragically lost their lives and extend our sincere sympathies to the families of the deceased and the injured.
Following the fire, frontline firefighters, ambulance crews, and police officers worked tirelessly in rescue efforts. Over 1,200 fire and ambulance personnel and more than 200 fire engines were dispatched to the scene; their bravery and dedication safeguarded lives. Society also mobilized spontaneously, with volunteers organizing supplies and citizens actively donating blood, demonstrating the spirit of solidarity among Hong Kong people.
Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Chief Executive, Mr. Lee Ka-chiao, directed all-out efforts for rescue and aftermath work. The Central Government expressed high concern and demanded full support for the SAR government to minimize casualties and losses. The Home and Youth Affairs Bureau has opened multiple temporary shelters and coordinated transitional housing resources for affected residents. The police and fire departments have established task forces to investigate the cause of the fire and will review the safety of scaffolding and building materials across Hong Kong to prevent similar tragedies.
